Spontaneous or a Planner?

How would you describe yourself, as a spontaneous person or one who likes to plan. As to either of those, are you “all in” or bits of both depending on what it is?
I’m very spontaneous, and if I gave much thought to some of my bigger life decisions I most likely wouldn’t have made them and would have missed out on a heck of a lot of fun and adventures. How about you?

As a retired senior without dependents or scheduled activities, that every day I wake up is Saturday with the government paying me to do nothing, I'm capable of just spontaneously deciding to do at least minor things and following through, however that results.

But I am much more likely to do well planned activities because I am very good at dealing with logistics, especially for complex things. Today, much can be done with computers and the Internet to assist planning. Also enjoy planning for future enjoyable activities, because that gives me things to look forward to.

Yesterday, Saturday at sunset, I drove 55 miles up to San Francisco to visit a large music venue I'd never been to. San Francisco is arguable one of the most difficult large dense cities to both drive within and find parking for. Just driving to The City in the dark is a white knuckle experience of heavy freeway traffic with myriad blinding lights and constant other vehicle lane mergings. Then within the city are endless one way and narrow streets with an onslaught of signage a driver needs to be aware of plus people walking on streets everywhere one needs to carefully watch for.

So I used Google Maps, Google Earth, and a bunch of the city's complex public transportation website, to figure out what the neighborhood of the venue looked like at street level, where I could safely park nearby that was free without paid parking or meters. Looked at YouTube music videos on each of several bands playing that evening.

I am also an old Sierra Nevada mountains backpacker that carries gear and food into wilderness for everything I might need to survive and enjoy myself for days. So have an extensive Excel gear listing and checklist to work in preparation for getting right, as once out there, one will be stuck. Thus finding one's forgot to replace an empty lighter would result in not being able to cook one's food.

It depends on what it is. I don't make important decisions before giving them a lot of thought. If someone calls with an emergency -say they need a ride to the doctor - I'll drop what I'm doing and help them. But if someone calls and wants to go out to eat and a movie, which would take up a big part of the day, I would probably decline. I usually have at least a few things I expect to accomplish each day, so if I'm going to go out for the day for just fun stuff, I'd rather know in advance. That way, I can free up my schedule and enjoy it more.

Planner , We like to go where it’s warm in winter and thats usually July / August each year ( in Australia )
Some times we drive the 2.200 each way ….if we plan to fly up ~ I start looking at sale price flights around Christmas time ..,so ….6~ 7 months in advance

Normal prices to fly to the Gold Coast are usually $300~ $400 each …I usually get them for about $120 including 23 kg of luggage

I will accept a last minute outing with my family in a heartbeat. I died twice already so I know it can be
over in the blink of an eye. Things that need scheduling, I will keep and work around those.
Sometimes it's nice to have a day or two notice at least though.

I am a planner, but I always have a plan B, C, & D just in case I need them

A lot of people think I am spontaneous because I don’t discuss my plans with anyone, then when they come to fruition people think I made a snap decision. Like when I moved to Southern California and trailered my horses with me. People thought I did that on the spur of the moment, but they had no idea it took me months of planning to accomplish that.

I'm more of a planner...everything from budgeting to travel. I used to hate it when my husband would spring things on me. Now, sometimes I have to be spontaneous when my Honorary Son #3 wants me to take a ride with him, usually to Amazon Fresh or sometimes to the mountains. I don't wear "street clothes" in the house, so I'll tell him "give me 20 minutes" (to change). Don't like to pass up chances to go shopping or be out in nature. :) 🍇🥦🌳🌷☀️
