As a retired senior without dependents or scheduled activities, that every day I wake up is Saturday with the government paying me to do nothing, I'm capable of just spontaneously deciding to do at least minor things and following through, however that results.
But I am much more likely to do well planned activities because I am very good at dealing with logistics, especially for complex things. Today, much can be done with computers and the Internet to assist planning. Also enjoy planning for future enjoyable activities, because that gives me things to look forward to.
Yesterday, Saturday at sunset, I drove 55 miles up to San Francisco to visit a large music venue I'd never been to. San Francisco is arguable one of the most difficult large dense cities to both drive within and find parking for. Just driving to The City in the dark is a white knuckle experience of heavy freeway traffic with myriad blinding lights and constant other vehicle lane mergings. Then within the city are endless one way and narrow streets with an onslaught of signage a driver needs to be aware of plus people walking on streets everywhere one needs to carefully watch for.
So I used Google Maps, Google Earth, and a bunch of the city's complex public transportation website, to figure out what the neighborhood of the venue looked like at street level, where I could safely park nearby that was free without paid parking or meters. Looked at YouTube music videos on each of several bands playing that evening.
I am also an old Sierra Nevada mountains backpacker that carries gear and food into wilderness for everything I might need to survive and enjoy myself for days. So have an extensive Excel gear listing and checklist to work in preparation for getting right, as once out there, one will be stuck. Thus finding one's forgot to replace an empty lighter would result in not being able to cook one's food.
