Spring Tree Work

Spring is when most people have tree work done around here. When I hear the chain saws start, it's like a knife through my heart with every RRRRR....RRRRRR.....RRRRRR. I really feel for any nesting birds in those trees. Why can't people wait until the baby birds have fledged to cut down trees or trim branches?

I used to have robins that nested in a yew bush every spring that was by the side of the house. I enjoyed watching the baby birds and the parent's activities when I sat on the sunporch. When I decided to have the shrubs removed, I waited until I knew the birds had vacated the nest. Here are some photos I took one year - I had to hold a mirror over the nest to photograph it since it was above my eye level when standing by the bush.

I feel the same. It's thoughtless and cruel to cut trees down while there are infants and moms in the nest.

Great photo. Those Robins can really pack them in such a small nest. I often wonder why Mother Nature didn't give the Robins the sense to make the nest bigger. So many times I have found one who has fallen out of the nest. Maybe they do it so they keep warm. A few weeks ago we took down our fence, kind of spur of the moment.. We had Bluebird houses on the main posts. One had eggs. We carefully cut the fencing off the post and left the house and post in place. I noticed a couple of babies fluttering around lately. When I'm sure they are gone we will remove the post and house. I'll put the houses up in a nearby location for the next batch.
