Are You Beating the Average Social Security Retired Worker Benefit for Your Age Group? | The Motley Fool

Below is a breakdown from the above link of the average Social Security benefit by age group. This frugal person living in the most expensive metropolitan area in the USA, is receiving well beyond the average benefit. Have lived 6 years on SS monthly benefit checks while also enjoying top Medicare levels without having to go into my savings at all. What I don't have is a residence I own but rather rent and and old 2007 vehicle that will eventually need to be replaced. Ideally would link up with a complementary physically active woman here in Northern California that owns a residence but doesn't have much of a SS benefit.

Do enjoy the long term secure feeling that I don't need to ever work again and can live comfortably so on SS benefits alone as long as my health remains reasonable.

Age Range Average Monthly Benefit

62-65 $1,414

66-70 $1,845

71-75 $1,927

76-80 $1,883

81-85 $1,823

86-90 $1,698

Thanks for the data.

Did you know that your blue text is hard on the eyes (at least mine), even though I don't use a dark theme?

I am getting well below the average SS for my age (76) but that's because I retired early, three weeks before my 51st birthday. I was also a low wage earner for about half of my working life, but started making substantially more going into the next half. I left 25 years ago with a salary that some public servants are living on today. I also took SS early, which of course caused me to lose even more of a percentage, but I do not regret it.

I've never had to live on SS alone because I get a pension. Even if I did, though, I probably could have made it because our co-op's monthly carrying charge stays about 63% lower than the average cost of rent in our area and more than 100% lower if we consider apartment rental costs in surrounding towns, especially in the infamous Bergen and Hudson counties (N.J.).
