Only if he needs to have proof of the figures. Probably would be something he wants for his protection and a paper trail.. I have done mine & others taxes for many years, Dealt with several audits and keep all my records, so if it's on a slip of paper so be it. Both the IRS & SSA have copies.
Do you have any clue as to why it worked this time but not the other times? That is so weird. But I'm very glad you finally got in Nathan. On a couple of websites over the past few years...one was a bank, the other USPS, I got an error message when trying to login. The bank rep transferred me to a tech and I found out that although I was "entering" the right login ID (username), for some reason their site didn't accept the username if it was entered using auto fill. Just last week, I found that to be the case with USPS.
No, I did everything the same, they did require me to change passwords(of course) but that went well. Over the past couple years I've noticed that some government websites have some annoying quirks, probably due their immensity and mission critical nature, as well as budget constraints that prevent much needed update and maintenance.
Yeah, their websites can be wonky. I've noticed that ssa.gov, my NJ state retirement benefits page and sometimes a bank or credit union site are not accessible during the middle of the night.
