Too bad. On a steep incline (drive way, road...whatever) it PAYS to use BOTH the transmission's 'PARK' feature

AND the parking brake.

Exactly. I remember being taught use the parking brake. Most did it out of habit. Also pointing the wheels towards the curb it case it does roll helps prevent a runaway.

Turn the wheels towards the curb when parking downhill, away from the curb when parking uphill, I was taught. And ALWAYS set the parking brake. I am amazed at how many drivers I know NEVER set the parking brake. What's with that?

Failure to set the Parking Brake is just asking for trouble. The "Park" position in the transmission just moves a rather small pin into position to "lock" the output shaft. This pin can wear, or stick, over time, if it has to bear the weight of the vehicle repeatedly.

My previous vehicle. a Renault Scenic, automatically applied the parking brake when you turned the engine off. It took me a while to get used to doing it manually again with my latest car.

I don't think they teach that anymore in Driver's Ed. Kinda like smoothly shifting gears in a standard transmission vehicle. I don't think they teach that anymore either.

I call the current trend in driving 'point and shoot' because too many think(giving them too much credit) it's just about steering, hitting the gas or brake. No situational awareness thinking about possible scenarios. Many simply don't know any better.
