do you find as you get older you dont go out as much----i have plenty of clothes the kids go after the groceries so i have no reason to go out

I see that sometimes. As a newly retired person, I am liking that I do not HAVE to go out every day. That being said, I try not to be a total homebody. But it was nice to chose to stay in during the couple of bad storms we had this past winter.

I've always had a strong sense of curiosity and wanderlust but early life didn't often allow me to indulge. Things such as earning a living and raising children kept me close to home. When I retired - living earned, children on their own - I spent 20+ years traveling and exploring either alone or with similar minded adults. When age and health began to slow me down, I enlisted a daughter to travel with me .... road trips mostly but also a glorious 3 weeks in Scotland. That trip convinced me that my major traveling was done. Fatigue wiped out much of the pleasure. I now have conceded to age and health. I had thought that giving up my active and interesting lifestyle would involve a lot of kicking and screaming but the change was gradual and always my decisions.

I'm now an armchair traveler (books and travel documentaries on TV) and am quite content. I have a cozy and comfortable little apartment quite close to my daughter and her family. It's ground floor, lots of windows and pleasant view of a little pond with its own resident alligator. I've always disliked shopping and fashionable new clothes do nothing for me. I'm out for doctor's appointments, grocery shopping and an occasional hair cut. Otherwise, I hibernate and thoroughly enjoy it. My life now .... content with occasional bursts of happy. Not bad for an octogenarian.

I rarely leave my apartment after noon, I schedule appointments and run errands in the early morning.

In the winter I only go out two or three times a week, usually within a five mile radius of my apartment.

When spring comes I have to push myself to get out more often and do more joyriding in the surrounding countryside.

As newly, and somewhat suddenly retired, I'm finding that getting out of the house is it's own reason for getting out of the house.
I like being able to shop for groceries during the week instead of the madly busy weekends - esp. going on wednesdays when the stuff that's on sale is still in stock.
There just isn't that much interesting on daytime TV.

I really don't go out much, just for grocery shopping now and then or the library. If the hubby goes into town I ask him to pick up a few things if I need them. We have two big chest freezers so I could go quite awhile without shopping. The only thing he won't buy is meat. When there is a big sale on that I go to the store. We do visit my daughter and family in Virginia quit often and that's quite enough for me. I'm really a home body.
