Steamer Trunks

I've never owned one.
But whenever I opened one, I always made sure I wasn't alone.

My parents had a steamer trunk, and my sister took one away to college. The trunks in question eventually were disposed of due to their bulk, and I’ve never owned or personally used one…

I had a rounded top trunk. I gave it to my then DIL.

Those travel stickers on trunks were a cool proof of an exciting international adventure.
Once I saw a trunk covered in stickers for sale online. He wanted $2000 because it had so much history. It wasn’t even his history, it was his uncle’s. The post was closed because so many people were laughing at him.

got a BIG one from neighbor of MIL/FIL... just like one in first picture. it was locked and didn't have a key. seems standard lock is rather primitive and local locksmith had a "skeleton key" available. it made a good coffee table for a while... good for storage of blankets and things. problem was, it was too easy for me to just put stuff on top and that made it a chore to get in/out of. i ended up (close your eyes and try to picture this) tipping it on one of its small sides and turning it into a tall lamp table. i screwed thru inside to attach 4 wooden balls as feet. the lid became a door of sorts... became a bit like a small closet.

That’s a clever re-use of the trunk, @wcwbf

I think many of us got rid of the trunk/coffee tables because it was only a good use in theory.

right now, would be hard to find room for 2 cups of coffee without some serious rearranging of stuff.
