Many athletes took steroids to improve their performance to garner those huge multi-million dollar contracts and the fame that accompanied it.

I figure introduce the world to some wonderful Art...then donate the proceeds to charity. I'm always thinking 'big picture'. ;)

I was more thinking... Ahem......bedroom at first.

I'm still voting no, as I'd rather have a artist, musician, poet not be "Pumped" to churn out mediocre work.

Except for Samuel Taylor Coleridge and the poem Kubla Khan.

I believe the majority of people will answer no. In truth I think many who answer no would in fact take steriods if it could give them an advantage, but they would take them in secret.

"You may have heard of anabolic steroids, which can have harmful effects. But there's another type of steroid - sometimes called a corticosteroid - that treats a variety of problems. These steroids are similar to hormones that your adrenal glands make to fight stress associated with illnesses and injuries. They reduce inflammation and affect the immune system.
You may need to take corticosteroids to treat:
  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Autoimmune diseases such as lupus and multiple sclerosis
  • Skin conditions such as eczema and rashes
  • Some kinds of cancer
Steroids are strong medicines, and they can have side effects, including weakened bones and cataracts. Because of this, you usually take them for as short a time as possible."

I would not take them, did, but will never again. I was prescribed them many many years ago for lung infections... Before taking them I was a beam pole... Not I have lots of weight which was caused by them, along with muscle lock-ups, and many many visits to the washroom. When I was having breathing problems many many years ago the doctors wanted to put me on prednisone which is a steroid used for many health problems... Never ever again... and if YOU are prescribed it, Please look at the pros and cons of this...

So, I would NOT take any steroids, knowing what they can do to YOU...

Back in the 90s I was prescribed prednisone for bronchial problems. Worked great but the side effects made a mess of my body. Gained 60 lbs, had a flare of psoriasis plus other sides.
I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately, 2 of my 4 daughters, have non-degenerative multiple sclerosis. Both have taken steroids at different times, for a very limited time, which successfully treated symptoms ("flare ups') of their disease.

I am so sorry they are the way they are, and I worked in a school that was made for kids like this... I was on prednisone for almost 5 - 10 years. It destroyed me back then and took a lot of work to get off that medication. When I was a kid the only inhaler out there was ventolin... Now there are many and many out there. Is there another way of treating them? Would a steroid inhaler do them well, maybe in an oxygen tent to receive the medication. It's just a very very scary medication. God Bless your daughters...

Steroids have their uses. Many asthmatics owe their very lives to steroids…as do some folks who had covid. But there is a big difference between body building and medical supervised care.
I did not mean anything bad to the steroid, and the people who need them, I am just saying be careful, that is ALL I am saying, nobody gave me a warning about it, I am talking 35 - 40 years ago when I first started the medication. I know there is a HUGE difference between breathing problems to bodybuilding. I did not want to upset people...

As a kid I use to get terrible poison ivy and also some kind of rash(which I still get). My mom medicated me with prednisone, I believe she was getting it from her doctor. This went on until I was probably around 16, so probably a good ten years. I always wonder if prednisone use is why I have health issues now, auto immune disorder, liver issues, degenerative joint issues.

Steriods certainly have their use, but misuse can cause serious consequences. So for me personally I won't take them just to gain a competitive edge.

Always been fine with my natural body and now at 74 could be a national poster boy. Best for a balanced consistent homeostasis. Pro athletes do have income motivations to pay for their lifestyle. Not a fan of bodybuilders.

Don't want to be taking any medicines or drugs (yeah no nicotine, little alcohol, no caffeine either), even no aspirin unless necessary. Never use head cold / flu medicines when sick that is rare. That noted, since last year after polycythemia vera diagnosis, have been daily taking hydroxyurea for and last 2 days Ibuprofen for a sore gum.

No. I have no artistic aspirations (musician, poet, etc).

Generally I avoid drugs, and steroids sound like bad news. I wouldn't/don't use them unless necessary.
