Still being billed on old cable service account

I received a bill for $219 from the cable company. On closer inspection, I saw it was my old account. I thought I had cancelled it. When I called they said the cancellation was cancelled because I had not turned in the modems registered to that account.

The tech that installed my new system wouldn't take them and said I'd have to turn them in at a cable "store". I live about equidistant from 2 cable stores and each would be almost a 40 mile round trip. It's not like I was still using the phone and computer modem, but they said until I turned in ALL my old equipment (phone & computer modem and the DTA converter), I would continued to be billed on the old account.

It is frustrating as most installers and or service people seem to be third party sub contractors and do not take care of customer.
Sometimes they let people ship it to them but honestly i saw so many times they claimed to not receive it ... so it is worth taking it in if possible.

That's right....until you return the modems, etc., your account will remain active. We had the same situation when we finally got rid of Dish.....I had to take the modems to a facility about 15 miles away to finalize the cancellation. Take a nice drive, do a little shopping, and drop off the modems....otherwise you will continue to get billed.

The returning the modem, etc before cancellation is probably somewhere in the very fine print.

Make the drive today and cancel again. I’ve heard the stories of companies denying they got a shipped part too.
