Stir Crazy

I have been out one day in the last two weeks, to go
to a supermarket and it is not easy, although I don't go
out too often, the fact that we are told to stay in if in
doubt about the cough you have makes it something
that I don't want to do, but looking in the mirror, I see
an old man looking back at me and this is the type of
citizen that is required to do as I am told!

There are only a few TV programmes worth watching
and because I had trouble with my box, I lost all of my
recordings.

I hope that you don't have to do this, but if you do I
hope that you are able to cope.

Mike.

In Canada it's called Cabin Fever.

In Canada it's called Cabin Fever.
it's called Cabin fever here as well ... as going stir crazy...

@Mike I hope you don't have to do this, you only need to do it if you feel or are told ( by calling your doctor, or in the UK calling 111)... and they will diagnose over the phone ..then it's imperative you self isolate .

Those of us who have a rear garden won't feel so locked up.... as long as we have a high enough barrier between our neighbours ( fences, trees, hedges etc.. )

Boris was on TV this afternoon and he or the chief
medical officer said that it is advisable for seniors
if you have a cold to stay in!

I have a cold, though I am convinced that it is a
head cold, but I will stay put for a while, I have
already cancelled a trip to visit my friend in
Cornwall at the end of this month.

You must stay home Mike, that's very sensible of you, if it's a head cold it will be gone in a couple of days..

I saw Boris interviewed this afternoon..despite Ireland and Scotland going on a shut down and banning large gatherings .. and Italy and Madrid... etc.. where bars and restaurants are closed as well ..

He's said nothing will, shut here, including schools and that everyone here should be open to get it, like in a ''Herd''.... so that it's all done at once.. and expecting 10s of thousands to get ill or die ( paraphrasing) but I was stunned to say the very least

This is the guidance
  • You cannot go for a walk but you can use your own garden.
  • You can buy food and other supplies online but you must warn drivers to leave goods outside and do not invite them in.
  • Stay in a well-ventilated room with a window that can be opened.
  • Stay in a different room to other people you live with.
  • If that isn't possible stay two metres or three steps away from other people.
  • Sleep alone if possible.
  • Do not have visitors.
  • Use your own toothbrushes, eating and drinking utensils, dishes, drinks, towels, washcloths or bedlinen.
  • Use the kitchen at different times to others in the house and eat alone.
  • Use a dishwasher if you have one.
  • If you are breastfeeding, consider asking someone else to feed the baby using expressed milk in a bottle.
  • Bag personal waste like used tissues inside two bags and keep it away from other household waste for 72 hours before adding to refuse.
  • Do not shake dirty laundry; this minimises the possibility of dispersing virus through the air.
  • If you don't have a washing machine wait until after you isolation before going to a launderette.
  • Keep hydrated by drinking water.
  • Clean your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Times like this make me appreciate all the land I've got. We've got walking trails all over the property and can wander for up to 2 miles without crossing the same path. 🙂 Today, I had to go to the walmart for fuel. This marked only the 4th time I've been off the property in a month and a half. It's the regular flu I'm worried about. Here, they closed the schools for 2 weeks because 1/3rd of the students had a cold or flu.
9 days ago, I had to go to our nearby city for the wife's medication. While there, I darted into the walmart and was surprised to see all the shelves were fully stocked. o_O Today... a different story. No toilet paper, no rubbing alcohol, no paper towels, no water bottles, hardly any canned goods and even no tuna. (don't get that). I guess the panic has really set in.

Yes , I'm pleased to say my daughter is similar to you , she has 5 acres so if she needs to stay on her property or self isolate she's fine and won't affect anyone else... and she's at the top of a mountain too

Sorry Mike that you have a cold and are going stir crazy. Do you have access to some puzzles? My Mom and I use to do them and the time just flew by. I went to pick up my hubby's medication so while I was in the store I did a little shopping. I don't need to stock up,we usually have extra of everything but I noticed some of the shelves were almost bare and cleaning supplies were being limited.

I think it's a good idea if everyone here tells us if they feel poorly... and if they have been diagnosed with the Coronavirus... we don't want anyone disappearing and us wondering if you're ill... . At least if you self isolate and when you feel up to it after the fever, at least you'll still have us to keep you company if you're alone and while you get well ..or if you need anyone to contact anyone else for you...

In Austin it's called, "If I don't get the f$%k out of here, I'm going to start breaking things!
I remember a movie. Rock Hudson. Isolated. One day he came out and saw his face in a pool of water. He had a beard and long hair and then completely lost it. Another movie and it was a soccer ball and the guy called it Wilson. Another guy who cracked up. It's always guys. Why? Are we lonely critters?

I've never been cooped up for fourteen days but when I have been unable to get out and start to get cabin fever I try to find something to occupy my time. If I'm working on a project that takes my mind off of the clock time slips away. Last winter it was culling and reorganizing books to thin the herd.

Good luck, Mike!

"Senior Isolation" is a serious problem, and can create all sorts of problems....both physical and mental. As we age, it becomes increasingly important to find ways to socialize, and occupy our time.
If this Corona Virus starts causing quarantines, etc., Seniors will become the most impacted. This would be a good time to evaluate your activities and hobbies, etc., and look for ways to keep as fit and active as possible....in case some 2 week "stay home" edict hits your area.

Mike if you can't get your recordings back, then just watch stuff on youtube.... there's loads of free TV shows and documentaries if you don't want to pay for netflix or amazon prime etc..

They've now put my daughters' region in Spain (andalucia and the costa del sol) on a special containment zone...

A surge in new cases of the coronavirus this week saw Malaga city, the Guadalhorce valley and the Costa del Sol declared special containment areas on Wednesday evening. This came hours after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Covid-19 outbreak a “global pandemic”.

According to the latest update offered by the regional Ministry of Health and Families on Thursday evening, in the province of Malaga there were 97 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (138 across the region). This means that confirmed cases of contagion in Malaga province account for almost 70 per cent of the total across Andalucía.

Among those that have tested positive in Malaga province, the majority have been told to self-isolate at home while under medical surveillance. Others, especially those with coronavirus-induced pneumonia, have been admitted to various hospitals across the Costa del Sol.

Following a special meeting of the Andalusian government cabinet, presided over by regional president Juanma Moreno on Wednesday, a range of new measures were announced to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the region.

A disproportionate number of cases in Malaga “is due to the fact that it is an area with a large movement of people”, referencing the city’s airport which welcomes a large number of tourists.

Malaga Airport was unusually quiet on Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday night president Juanma Moreno announced that all schools and other education centres would close across Andalucía for two weeks.
