Stocking Up On Toilet Paper

While there is certainly nothing funny about Corona virus, I do find it hilarious the way people are stocking up on Toilet Paper.

They show them with cartloads of the stuff. One reporter asked a woman why she was buying so much and she replied "cause everyone else is"

It seems odd to focus on toilet paper, given the symptoms, I would’ve thought tissues more appropriate...

On TV today there were a couple of discussions asking whether it was selfish or not to ‘stock up just in case’, someone actually said the people stocking up were robbing others !

There have already been some reports about "panic buying" is some of the major urban areas, and if this virus continues to expand, we will see more people loading up. We're not "preppers", but living in the boondocks we always keep a fair amount of food in the house....in case of a streak of severe weather, etc. We probably have enough food in the basement and freezer to last 3 or 4 weeks....about the only things we might run out of quickly are bread and milk. Noting that, we bought a package of powdered milk, and some flour and ingredients for making bread, on our last trip to the grocery store. We always keep plenty of TP, paper towels, and Kleenex on hand....enough to last 3 or 4 weeks.

I discovered @Don M. that powered milk isn't that bad at all. I keep a box in the cupboard.

To me, retired, being at home 99% of the time, buying bars of hand soap to wash my hands is more practical than any hand sanitizer bottles would be.
Just me, but after using those hand sanitizers for a while, I feel the need to wash that stuff off my hands and really 'clean' my hands with hot soapy water.

I've always bought in quantity
Especially when living at the cabin

I don't really care if others hoard or not

The upside; good for the economy

Wiping off shelves does seem rather selfish
Especially in the med dept
I always order my two BP meds in 90 day supply
If I can't get any for awhile, well, I'll cut 'em in half

Time for the US to step up....git busy manufactuing
It's an opportuniy
Git off the China teet

Meanwhile, I'm goin' back to rice and beans
Lived off that for many years

I can see the need for toilet paper. If quarantined and you run out of toilet paper, what will you wipe with? You can't use leaves or bark. And, if you run out of kleenex, you can use toilet paper, I do it if I run out of kleenex. I do agree that food and medicines are more important, but hygiene also is, otherwise you end up with more problems than the virus.

I think it's a good idea to buy powdered milk for emergencies stock up, for those who use milk a lot. I hardly ever use milk and never drink it.

Well, we use a Biffy, which is a sort of bidet "arm" that you attach to the toilet. What that means is that one is sprayed off (interesting in the cold of winter!) and pretty much clean before drying off with any toilet paper. Big savings right there, and cleaner, I think, than pawing at yourself with toilet paper.

plenty of bleach in our stores charry - dont think there is a shortage - dettol will be nxt on the panic

We went to Sam's the other day, and folks were indeed buying toilet paper, paper towels, and bottled water. One particular demographic also seemed to be stocking up on Topo Chico! LOL! Maybe that's what Latino Moms give their kids when they're sick. Who knows?

I like and always use ( regardless if it’s flu season ) glen 20 in our 2 bathrooms 2 seperate toilets
it’s claimed it kills virus .I spay our pillows with it and put them outside in the sun if either of get any flu symptoms during winter . I buy it when it’s on special so I have 6 cans in the cupboard 81F6A40F-5C46-4B2C-922B-1950B99AAEFD.jpeg

I think that it's just a need for people to do something in an emergency.

I already buy paper products by the bale, meds enough for 90 days, and I have a small supply of food so I'm set unless the municipal water system shuts down.

I was in Walmart this morning and didn't see anything unusual in the way of panic buying or hoarding.
