Strange how metal plate has a distinct smell

At work we purchase Q&T (Quenched and Tempered) metal plate from Belgium.
Every time I Oxy cut it, or separate the plates, there is a very distinctive smell to it.
I wonder if this is what Belgium smells like

I forget what hops smell like but maybe it smells a bit hoppy
