Streaming Services Have Gone Up On Their Prices

In the last couple of months, Netflix went up from $9.99 to $19.99 a month for ad free programming. For now old subscribers will be billed at the old price as long as they do not cancel their subscription. I canceled again because besides the ridiculous 100% increase in price, I've begun having trouble streaming Netflix on my Roku. Hulu jumped from $15.45 including tax to $17.99 not including tax.

Paramount+ went up by $2 but threw in a surprise. The subscription now includes Showtime. I know that adding Showtime to other plans costs more than $2 after the trial period. For instance it costs another $10.99 to add Showtime to Hulu. Discovery+ also raised their price by $2. Don't know about Prime because that's a freebie through MetroPCS. Discovery and Hulu are keepers for me. The others I'm subject to cancel for a few months at a time.

Satellite TV providers....DISH Network, etc....have been losing business to the Streaming services. As a result, the "streamers" have been raising their prices and "options". As the TV providers jockey their packages, prices will only continue to rise. If this continues, we may see a lot of people returning to "roof top" antennas, and fewer channels available.

You might be in for a shock.

Over the air TV is moving to a new standard "ATSC 3.0" and the old digital TV "ATSC 1.0" is still being broadcast for a few more years but at lower power. An older TV might not get so many channels any more if there are hills, trees, distance, etc. between your antenna and theirs. Most of the actual physical channels were sold off to cell phone companies. Even with a new ATSC 3.0 capable TV, you may run into encryption that your set does not support. Even when it does, it often requires an active Internet connection.

I been just sticking to the free sites. I just got rid of Hulu cuz I was payin $8 something with ads and it kept kicking off and telling me to restart the computer. The free sites with the same show don't do that. Not worth payin for if ya ask me.

Leaves me wondering what the heck to do. No cable. No streaming here. Using an active antenna to grab what I can. Lots of channels, but most in a language I cannot understand.

Been searching for what to transition to but am confused by it all.

Not a problem for me.I haven't had "regular TV" and cable since 2018. Been happily streaming ever since.

We only just got highspeed about 6 months ago so we started at &18.96 a month Canadian dollars for Netflix. We’ve never had high speed do we are still at the tickled pink stage.

There’s so much on Netflix that I don’t see the need to pay for other stations. We sometimes get the free trial for a month and cancel it. We aren’t rich either.

After talking this over this morning with chose Netflix with commercial for 75% off.
I’m ok with commercials…. Especially for 75%

I agree with @Ken N Tx. Get a streaming service, as long as you have access to high speed internet that is. If not, you may have problems with buffering. There are so many streaming platforms to choose from and you'll be getting programming in English. :)

I really liked Netflix but got bumped off of it. Hulu has a Thanksgiving special that runs around 1.99. I have Hulu now but it will run out and I am missing Netflix so maybe I'll go back to that. Cable is boring and awful.

I use a lot of the free ad-supported streaming services. Often they give either a countdown in seconds or a number countdown when they run several commercials in a row. I just mute and do something with my hands until they end. You might be a knitter, or you might like those cheap handheld electronic games.
