Struggles with opening 'lids' on jars, cans and other things. What works well for you?

Is this a repeat topic? Seems to ring a bell to me, but I might be thinking of another forum?

I have things to help me open jars and lids, but likely I don't have all that I need.
This past year has been miserable on my hands and fingers trying to get the job
done, so I've picked up a new rubber things for twisting the lid tops, I already had
one, but this one is working much better and is larger.

I found an easy way! Jars of pickles and stuff have a pressure point in the middle of the lid and there are small ridges around the undersides of the lid rim so, just push the top of a screwdriver (or similar) up under the raise bit and gently flip it up a little, you hear the pressure sound as the air is released and then you can just twist the lid off. (y)

It does seem familiar, but it is a good reminder for me to go look on Amazon for the battery operated twisting jar opener, I keep struggling with jars of olives lately.
I am going to simply have to make that purchase, the battery operated one just might solve most of
these challenges I think.

excellent!

I give it a few whacks with a sturdy knife, gently nudging the lid in a counter-clockwise direction.

If that fails, I'm not above destroying the lid. Have to be careful not to damage the jar though.
That's what I do... not hard whacks, but three or four not especially gentle taps around the edge. Someone used to tell me I'd get glass in the food  but that hasn't happened in more than five decades, so I continue. Sometimes if it's a sugary food that's sticking like jam, running the lid under hot water helps.

Something else that Amazon sells for seniors with weak hands, but you need strength enough to screw it to a surface to use.

For anything in a glass jar with a lid, putting the jar upside down in very hot water (enough to cover the lid) for 30-60 seconds usually works for me.
The hot water will expand the metal lid more than the glass jar therefore making it easier to break the seal.

Truth of the matter for me is that I was so frustrated last week after having
burnt my left wrist, and hand quite significantly, that then couple days later
I went through my routines on a Jam/jelly jar I'd wanted to open, the hot water
was not working or me being able to break the suction, I'd tried a few things,
so I held the jar in my hand and decided to smack the lid hard against one part
of the kitchen wall which is very thick, in efforts to break the suction, and it
busted my jam jar to pieces literally almost. Won't do that again, I am now checking
into a few suggestions from this thread and thanks.

It's OK if it's a repeat. I've had a couple of jars, I was afraid I couldn't get open. I like the jar openers posted here. I've meant to look into some in the past and now it's a good reminder.
