Sugary drinks like soda linked to Dementia .

Lots of things that lead to dementia for sure, like you I don't drink sweet or diet sodas, which are worse in some cases for your health. Plain seltzer water, no salt or sugar for me.

We don't drink soda, gave it up many years ago. We do drink coffee in the morning and ice tea the rest of the day. I saw a report on TV a couple of nights ago about sugar substitutes causing dementia. We both use Sweet and Low in our drinks. What surprised me about the report was that they didn't ask the people in the test group just what substitute they were using. There are so many verities out there and all have different ingredients. I can't seem to do without that sweet taste. I've tried gradually lowering the amount I use. I get just so far and then don't enjoy my tea or coffee at all.

My husband is diabetic and asked me to research the substitutes. Everywhere I looked seemed to give conflicting info, but I got the general impression is that aspertaime is by far the worst. Sucralose better and stevia best

Yes,Marie, I forgot about Stevia. I even grew it in my garden. I didn't like the taste of it from the store or my garden. I tried to dry it and grind it up into a powder which I finally managed to do but when I added it to my drink it floated to the top. I'm going to try cutting back again at a slower rate. By the year 2040 I should be completely off everything, even food and water.

My daily "cocktail" is a Shasta club soda, with a splash of lime:

When I'm in the mood I drink canned REGULAR Pepsi Cola.
I NEVER drink the "Lite" types because the artificial sweeteners are bad for your health.

My evening cocktail is vodka with a splash of club soda.

The report says "diet sodas" not regular ones. My neurologist told me years ago after a massive stroke to never drink "diet" drinks as they constrict the blood vessels and I needed mine open to avoid another aneurysm. I never drank them anyway. I do realize the sugar is not good either but I enjoy my one coke a day and at my age see no reason to give it up. I do enjoy it more with a little Crown in it during the "cocktail" hour!.
