You would think that this winter might have caused many to have checked out by now but the rate goes up in the spring!? Nobody knows why with just a few questionable theories, such as people who might are just to listless in the winter...:D

That's surprising. I think xmas is a high suicide rate time.

Here's a quote from Psychology Today on that.

3. People are most likely to commit suicide around Christmas time. False. Contrary to popular belief, the suicide rate peaks in the springtime, not the wintertime. This is probably because the rebirth that marks springtime accentuates feelings of hopelessness in those already suffering with it. In contrast, around Christmas time most people with suicidal thoughts are offered some degree of protection by the proximity of their relatives and, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, the prospect of 'things getting better from here'

The way I see it, the person has hung on during the "dark days", hoping, just hoping things will get better. Then spring comes, everything is brighter, everyone is brighter but inside that person the "dark" persists. He or she just can't hang on any longer. The hope of better things to come that was just dangling out there just beyond reach turns out to be not enough.

That's what I always heard. They do say seasonal affective disorder is a problem to.

Still not as high as Japan with nearly 30,000 taking themselves out. The culture is different but that's still a high number. Quite frankly I more worried about the younger folks going because they haven't had time to gain wisdom to put things in perspective or make it through tough or undesirable times.

What concerns me is that children as young as ten are committing suicide. What is happening to our world and what is happening to our children that tells them life is not living . ( This is a rhetorical question)
