Hogging freight for PennCentral and Conrail I never hit one trespasser who obviously unsuccessfully desired to go on to the next life. A contributing factor to their failure was our maximum allowed speed was anywhere from 40 MPH to 60 MPH. AMTRAK was a different issue. Way too fast to fully brake safely. IMHO permanent or temporary sometimes a number of attempts are made before a subject feels they have nothing left to live for and actually see death as the only escape from their pain. Erin chose that route last year. Exactly 9 weeks after Jerry O passed away from cancer.

BTW: Jerry O was in his 60's Erin was 9.

I feel your pain. Jerry O was not only a revered member in good standing here but a very close friend of mine succumbed to cancer last year then 9 weeks later my youngest grandbaby took her own life. Life can be fleeting so enjoy the gift of GOD while you can. Thanks for posting.
 
People commit suicide. Most of us can't understand it. I certainly don't know how to stop it, and I don't pass judgement on people who do it. I do try to fill in the blanks with my own speculations when it happens, but I'm just guessing.

Jerry O's moniker was "Redneck but brainy". I miss him so very much. Many members here remember the situation of me having to go to court to get custody of Erin. My older grandbrat Stinky moved in with me to help care for her. The three of us had some difficulty adjusting to each other but it resolved itself over time.

A number of members here know about the bi-racial issue that she just couldn't get her head wrapped around not being able to be accepted by members of the two different cultures here in South Florida. I posted a rather lengthy thread about my experience when I was a child in NYC. One day Stinky asked Erin why she was so quiet lately. Erin said I have nothing left to live for. Due to our collective ignorance and self absorbed stupidity we didn't think much of it until it was too late. Our only solace is knowing that she is in the care of the Good Lord. Thanks all for your comments.
