summer's almost over

Butterfly- Daisy the Pig has never seen snow. Indeed, most people native to the Gulf Coast of Alabama have never seen snow, either.Just judging by her reaction to rain and wet underfoot- or underhoof in her case, I don't think she would like snow at all.
She likes warm weather just fine. She likes to go out in the yard, find a soft spot and collapse for a while until she gets too hot. Being a very black pig, she soaks up a lot of heat energy quickly.
She also shed all of her bristles in summer- she becomes a naked pig. As fall progresses, her bristles come back and she becomes a shaggy pig.

good day to all- Ed

Thanks. For some reason I'm quite fascinated about your having a house pig. I've never been around pigs, and I've never known anyone with a pet pig. So that's why all the questions. Does she know you (I mean like a dog might know you)? Does she like to be petted? Does she get sunburned when she is a naked pig? Does she need shots like a dog does?

Butterfly- Yes, she absolutely does recognize all of her people- at least, the ones who feed her. She is quite a bit smarter than our dogs, and she knows her name and "out" and such ideas. She does like to be scratched- a lot. she does get sunburned, and it is not a good time. Her skin oozes moisture from small sores, and she gets really grumpy. We try to keep this from happening, she doesn't need regular shots- pigs are not subject to as many diseases as dogs are. They best way to describe having a pig in the house- Imagine a very strong and sometimes noisy two-year old- that's what having a pig is like.
Of course, the pig is housebroken, and not all two-year olds are...
good day to all- Ed
