Superbug hits a California hospital killing two!

This bug is resistant to any treatment and is said to lurk in contaminated hospital equipment. We have all heard about the dangers of infections in hospitals but this one is probably the scariest. The hospital states that all recommended sterilization procedures had been followed as they know lawsuits are probably on the way. Not very reassuring about how safe we are if we are hospitalized...

Superbugs are caused mainly by the over use of antibiotics and the use of anti-bacterial products in soaps and household products.

Doctors know better than to prescribe antibiotics when they will do no good but do it any way. There is also concern about the use of antibiotics used in animals used for food.

Both of these methods cause superbugs by killing the weaker bugs and letting the strong to survive, building immunity.

This has been known for years but doctors still over prescribe antibiotics and antibacterial lotions and cleaners are the best sellers for home use.

Every now and then there is an outbreak such as this.

I used to work with a woman in TN and she was always taking antibiotics. If she had a cold she'd phone her doctor for some just in case she got a sinus infection. She'd never finish prescriptions either and kept spare antibiotics in her desk in case she felt she needed some. I tried and tried to explain to her why this was bad practice but she never listened. I learned all about why we should take antibiotics properly in a microbiology class. Doctors should explain this to patients, not simply tell them to finish the entire prescription even if they feel better.

Healthiest thing is to try to avoid hospitals and doctors if possible. There have been a lot of issues even with dentists of poorly sterilized equipment. Someone in the medical industry was commenting on unclean scopes used for colonoscopy procedures, saying they weren't too concerned about sterilization, because they were going to get dirty anyway.
