Take a rail trip with VIA

Canada is the second largest country in the world, only Russia is bigger in terms of square mile area. In my experience, many of those who choose to travel on The Canadian from Vancouver to Toronto are foreign tourists. Ordinary Canadians who want to travel across our country tend to do it in a commercial aircraft. Why ? Time and cost. To fly from Vancouver to Toronto takes about 5 hours. The fight costs a lot LESS than the train ticket does. A lot LESS.

The other negative aspect is that Via Rail passenger trains are quite often shunted onto side tracks, to allow the much more profitable freight trains to have the right of way. So you spend hours not moving in each day of the journey across a part of my country. I say "part way " because once you arrive at Toronto you are still more than 2,000 miles from the most easterly point in Canada, at Cape Spear in Newfoundland and Labrador. Canada is a vast country. JIMB.
