To me, "it" is happiness and contentment. While I've experienced some of that to varying degrees in my life, there's been too much unhappiness and discontentment. Sometimes, you just have to accept your current circumstance and be content with it, but that can get a little boring and difficult if you can't stop longing for things to be different. It's these cravings that cause suffering, according to the Buddha.
And if you're not living "the good life" as you may define it, existential anxiety can creep in and cause panic. There's nothing worse than feeling like you're wasting your life, but that's all subjective. One person may feel the need to jump off cliffs and soar through alpine ravines with the use of a wingsuit at 140 MPH while others are content to watch TV all day.
I guess that would define "it" as the meaning of life. But there are a lot of "it"s. Sometimes a person has that special
je ne sais quoi, or they have it, but you can't define what it is. Other's have another kind of "it," which makes you want to stay away from them and hope that they're not contagious.
And now, I must go to Walmart where many people will no doubt have the latter form of "it," and I shall try my best to stay away from them.
