Talked a lot about scuba diving

After numerous setbacks and an ongoing decline in health I've decided to stop certification process. I made my mind up this morning given present health conditions, desire, and comparison of pros & cons. I can live with the financial loss of selling used scuba gear, but I needed to come to terms with the acceptance and understanding that health wise I am not suitable for an extreme sport as scuba diving.

I know it's time to stop.

Some decisions aren’t easy but you know they’re the right ones. Health is number one. Good one, Ed.

Wise decision, Mr. Ed. My husband took Scuba diving lessons when he was in hi 30's and due to an error his dive partner made, he burst his eardrum. It's part of the hearing loss he has today. It's a very complicated sport in many ways.

I second Helen's suggestion.

Scuba too extreme? Try snorkeling.
Snorkeling is a really very different thing.

@Mr. Ed, I know it was difficult but I think you've made the right decision. You take a huge risk every time you scuba dive. I don't do it anymore, either. There's a real possibility I'll make a mistake because my memory isn't what it used to be, or something will go wrong because I'm not as agile or quick. I love scuba diving, but it's not worth risking my life.

It's wise to acknowledge the fact that we need to change activities as we age.
I have a couple of friends I wish would sell their motorcycles; one is 87 & had to have major surgery after a minor fall at 10 mph. The other is only 66 but has health issues that have contributed to falls that had a detrimental effect on his future health & life span.

Personally, I sold some insanely-powerful guns. Not worth wrist & shoulder problems.

I've been snorkeling in the Keys and off Cancun. It's enjoyable. I've never been scuba diving. Denver is so far from the oceans that it's not something I think I'll ever do... not that I wouldn't want to. It's probably relaxing, being underwater and just observing the ocean wildlife. I can see the appeal.

Each of us must find his own balance between "aging gracefully" and "Do not go gentle into that good night". I wish you well, Ed.
