Friend’s (retired) brother works part-time as a taxi driver. Saw him recently and he told me he always works New Year’s Eve. That’s their busiest day/night. People drink and want to avoid DUIs. Tips are good - $20 - $50 tip (on top of fare) isn’t unusual. People call taxi companies as early as November trying to reserve a cab for NYE, but they won’t take a reservation for that night.
University bar areas and downtown hotels always have people waiting for cabs on NYE. Lots of people want the driver to stop at White Castle or Taco Bell for hamburgers or Tacos on NYE after a night of drinking, but time is money…the drivers don’t like to do it even with meter running unless a huge tip is guaranteed/given in advance.
Fourth of July and football games also bring lots of customers.
If someone vomits in taxi, there is a $50 fine/cleanup fee. :eeew:
(This is now the law.)
