BOULDER, Colo. — A gunman opened fire at a grocery story in Boulder, Colo., on Monday afternoon, killing 10 people, including a police officer, the authorities in Boulder said.

A suspect was in custody and was injured during the shooting, said Cmdr. Kerry Yamaguchi of the Boulder Police.

People were lined up in the store to receive the covid-19 vaccine, although I don't know if they were targets or if that's related to the motive.

I feel rather guilty. A couple of days ago, I asked on here why an American woman felt so unsafe that she needed to carry a loaded gun while shopping in a supermarket. Now this has happened.
At least it doesn't appear to be motivated by race or terrorism...just some pathetic loser taking out his frustrations on innocent shoppers.

Colorado governor Jared Polis tweeted to say he was devastated by the incident.

"My heart is breaking as we watch this unspeakable event unfold in our Boulder community," he said.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki tweeted that President Joe Biden had been briefed on the incident.

Colorado was also the location of two other infamous mass shootings - the Columbine school massacre in 1999 and the Aurora cinema shooting in 2012.

The latest attack was the seventh mass killing this year in the US.

It comes less than a week after eight people were murdered, including six Asian women, in shootings at massage parlours in and around Atlanta, Georgia.

Video showed a shirtless, bearded man in boxer shorts being led away from the store in handcuffs.

SWAT teams and at least three helicopters were sent to Boulder - about 28 miles north of central Denver - after the shooting started at around 2.30pm.

Identities of the other nine victims have not yet been disclosed as police were still notifying their families.

I was just saying to my family the other day, that this pandemic is and will be responsible for a lot of mental health issues... and I wonder if this and the last victims in Atlanta are caused by those who have lost the plot due to the year long lockdown...

I've got cousins who live near that store....I just hope none of them were grocery shopping today.

The world seems to be getting "nuttier" with every passing week.
My daughter had shopped that day when the mass shooting happened in El Paso, Tx at the Walmart, but earlier in the day so I understand your concern for the cousins. My son was at a nightclub in SLC, Ut, decades ago when a mass shooting happened there. He escaped with no injuries.

Everytime these shooting happen it causes a post traumatic reaction, and traumatic reaction in almost every American, IMO. We have too many of these shootings and it’s just so horrible and sad for us all. We have enough to be sad about without this crap.

There will be a lot of talk, the funerals will be on TV, the families interviewed, but nothing will change. These mass shootings are one of the greatest shames of our country. Yet, the people who own guns, including those on this forum, will simply shake their heads and buy more bullets.

That's it in a nutshell Holly. Last week while I was parked in a grocery store parking lot a man pulled his car in beside mine. He lit up a smoke and smoked for a bit then put his head in his hands and started to cry. He did this for several minutes. I watched the whole thing and felt so bad for him. Then a woman came out of the store, got in the car and he and she drove away. This gave me nightmares for days to see a grown man so overwhelmed by his emotions. I felt like crying with him.

No, Holly. Just a typical day in America, where H. Rap Brown once said "Violence is as American as cherry pie." I wish he had said apple pie, but that's my only complaint on his quote.

eta--googled the date of that quote, it was 7/27/1967 and I can't see where it has gotten any better since then and in fact has gotten (much) worse.

I got an e-mail from my cousin this morning, and they are all ok. They live about a mile from this store, and shop there a couple times a month, and are upset that something so vile could happen in their area. Boulder is a really nice town, nestled at the base of the mountains, with the University of Colorado as it's main "landmark".

His crying in the parking lot may have been from grief due losing a loved one recently and not at all related to the pandemic.

I lived in Colorado Springs decades ago, I am familiar with Boulder, it’s a really nice town.

I don't think the pandemic cause this. I think it was the reverse. It seems the pandemic resulted in fewer cases of the regular flu and a significant drop in mass shootings. Now that we are opening back up, gun violence is on the rise.
