Ten Years Ago

Feb 1, 2008, slipped on ice under snow in my driveway and broke my left fibula and dislocated my ankle. Life has never been the same. My left leg is still visibly larger that the other. The doctor thought I had developed a blood clot, but numerous tests revealed nothing.

I still have a plate on the fibula near the ankle. The orthopedic surgeon that fixed my leg said he could go back in and remove it if it ever bothered me. It tingles once in a while, but not to the point I want to have surgery again.

This wasn't as bad as when I broke the middle finger of, fortunately, my left hand. Still can't make a fist. All the fingers, including the middle, to the outside of it can't bend well. I can do a lobster pinch, though. The finger never healed straight. Has a hump in the distal interphalangeal joint.

That's terrible Deb. When I was 16 I dislocated my knee and tore through the meniscus. In a few months I was as good as new. About ten years ago I did the same thing only I didn't bounce back. I went to rehab several times, now both knees are out of wack. I live with it. I think age plays such an important roll in our ability to bounce back. I wouldn't want surgery either.

So many people I know have had botched surgery lately; makes you wonder about doctors and the feasibility of having procedures if you end up worse afterwards.
