Thanksgiving Turkey Cost

That's a great deal!

The local Wegman's has them for 37 cents a pound with a $25.00 dollar purchase that includes the price of the turkey.

Every year when the turkey wars begin it just about kills me to pass on such great bargains but turkey wrestling is a thing of the past for me.

 
They are using the Turkey as a loss leader.

They figure once you are in the store they will make up it and then some by you buying all your other Thanksgiving dinner stuff from them.

Yes of course and it works. What person would walk in buy a turkey and then walk out without passing other bargains need for a turkey dinner?
 
Our food store offered a free turkey, up to 20#, with purchasing $400.00 from October 10th until November 15th. It was the store brand turkey. If you wanted a Butterball or other brand, the purchaser would get $1.00 per pound discount. Butterballs here are $1.76 per pound.
 
Went to Safeway and picked up a 20 lb. Honeysuckle White turkey for .47 lb. We don't do turkey for Thanksgiving but will keep it in the freezer for sometime during the year when we're in the mood.
 
turkey I buy fresh' taste far better than frozen ones for Christmas ' they usually start around for a 18 pounder in weight
is about £25 --I usually pay-- £28 to £30 for 22 pounder..

My butcher told me to buy frozen. His claim is that it is frozen immediately and doesn't sit around like fresh turkeys.

Turkey and Christmas brings back a memory for me.
I was dating my future wife and my mother in law asked me to get a turkey for her for Christmas.
I worked for a meat packing firm at the time and there was a discount for employees.

I had no idea why the price for big turkeys was less than small ones.

So I got this huge turkey for 19 cents a pound

It wouldn't fit in the oven. Oh to be young and stupid again. It's so much more fun.
 
That is a good price. Tops Market here charges 49 cents per pound with a $25 purchase. I still did OK. Got the bird and most of what I need (except for fresh vegies) for $45. I had bought myself a $25 gift card earlier this year, after a conversation here back in the summer. So, out of pocket today was about $20, I can live with that, The only thing I buy elsewhere is the Italian sausage for my stuffing. Have a small meat market near hear that has great meat at good prices.
 
Well I purchased my turkey breast today it was $8.50 for a very large turkey breast from butterball. What a deal! I also bought all the ingredients for my stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, rolls, cranberries, gravy, and a Dutch apple pie. Maybe I could celebrate Thanksgiving about six days earlier!
 
My 13 lb Turkey cost $13.15 The peanut oil to deep fry it in cost $32.48.... :rolleyes: Then there's the Ham..$26.49...I'm over it!!!!!!
