The afternoon cartoons on TV.

From 4-6PM on most local TV stations was cartoon time. Popeye, Bugs, Road Runner were the oldies they showed, But there was also Huckleberry Hound, Tricksy and Dicksy. Quick Draw ,Yogi, and BooBoo with the Ranger. I know MeTV is rerunning the Warner Bro.s cartoons, but all the Hanna/Barbara ones seem lost somewhere?
I guess we'll need some one "better than the average bear" to find them.

Was just thinking about cartoons on tv in the early 50s. Especially on Saturday morning there were no ads no hosts no nothing but cartoon after cartoon. Some of them were really old with just music and no dialog. I especially liked the little mice being chased around by the old farmer.

Afternoon cartoons on TV when I was a kid were hosted by a variety of people, and who you saw depended on the area in which you lived. In my NYC suburban area, there were cartoon hosts such as Sandy Becker and "Officer Joe Bolton," who also showed a lot of Three Stooges material, at times admonishing the kiddie audiences to not actually poke people in the eyes or do the other things that the Stooges did... 🙀

As a kid, I can remember being set before the old black-and-white TV as kind of an early electronic babysitter. Mom thought, "Here kid, sit still, be quiet, and watch this drek for an hour or two so I can have some peace!" That was fine with me, but in the 1950's, shows like "Cartoon Playtime" might show 'toons from even earlier times, like the 1940's or 1930's. Some of it was pretty trippy stuff that wouldn't pass muster today for disturbing themes or content...but hey, I turned out alright, sorta. Hey look, a saxophone, cool!
