The Americans have bought the rights and have produced their own version of Doc Martin.

It's called Best Medicine. The doctor's name is Martin Best...get it?

I watched the first episode. Its uneven because they don't know if they want to go with playing up the character as anti-social or as his own personality which is he just can't understand the crazy characters in the town.

I like him as the second case. I want to see Doc Martin done with a more well rounded character.

There was only one Doc Martin, the British one. I must confess, although I love British television, I began to lose interest in the show because of his attitude towards some people, with his constant use of the word, idiot.

I watched it Sunday and the repeat tonight. It was better the second time watching. It's almost hard to watch without all the British accents.

On another forum there were 3 pages of comments and what surprised me is that most and I do mean most of the posters didn't understand that this was Comedy not a medical drama with city setting and a big hospital staff.

They especially didn't like the parts I liked. I'd rather laugh than criticize. I didn't like everything, but that's fine. I don't want a copycat version of Doc Martin.

I will watch it again for episode 2. Love the scenery which was filmed on location in and around Cornwall, NY.

That was throwing me too until someone pointed out to me that his name is Martin Best so the townspeople call him Doc Martin.

I agree it showed potential. But it could go either way...towards a truly unique show or become the usual American TV show pablum.

If it doesn't develop its own charm and move away from the British Doc Martin, I can't see it lasting.

Watched the first episode and wasn't moved by it in any way. The original Doc Martin had me wanting to watch more but this one left me shaking my head. I doubt I will watch another episode.

How crass! but small screen shows are a challenge - your films [past and present] are great but with series - not sure if you've found the niche yet?

because his first name is Martin. Just like British Doc Martin - in that, Martin was his first name and Ellerby was his surname

I am going to give this new series a try - but I'm not sure it will live up to original which I really loved.
