The biggest diamond in over a century is found in Botswana

Wonder who will try to steal that one.

This reminds of the surfer who pulled off one of the biggest jewel heists in NY history. Jack Murphy. But like many career criminals he wasn't the cool dude he was portrayed as. They assaulted Eva Gabor and wound up killing associates from who knew about another crime

But the size of this one is still astounding especially in era where can 'grow' diamonds.

I read many years ago, that large diamonds were
quite common, though very few were declared,
the miners were paid by the stone, no matter the
size, the payment was the same, this was probably
in the 19th century, so the shrewd miners who found
a large stone, just broke it into a lot of smaller ones,
to get paid a few rand for each one, instead of being
paid once, for the single stone.

I wonder what the size of the diamond is going to be once that's cut or whether they will break it into smaller diamonds.
One that size is more likely to become a museum piece,
if they can afford it, or maybe the company who own it
will keep it so prove something, if they don't need the
money.
