In the Uk she would keep all that.... but in the US I believe everything gets' taxed.. someone will correct me if I'm wrong... so I have no idea how much tax she'll have to pay....

I don't think there is a tax on a divorce settlement; I could be wrong, however.
What does one do with that much money? It's kind of like the "if you won the lottery"... I would have a difficult time spending even just a million. I could buy each of my two nieces a house. Finish this one. Then what? But eight billion USD?

California is a Community Property state, where marriage partners own jointly assets acquired during the marriage. Of course there may nuptial agreements that modify entitlement to marital assets. There's no divorce 'tax' per se, but legal fees could take a considerable chunk of change.

I suspect , that as she's very used to being very rich anyway, she won't spend any of it like we mere mortals would... rather she'll just live as she normally does.. maybe invest it in property...or gold... or stocks ..... ....she might even do some good with some of it... I mean she could literally build and furnish a whole hospital with dyalysis machines for example....or put some of it to medical research......

Melinda plans to fund her philanthropic organization with much of the settlement money. She is particularly interested in equality for girls/women. Her organization is called Pivotal Philanthropies.
