Can't stop reading this book which I bought yesterday from the bargain table at the local library.(20 cents)
A fascinating insight into German life during the 30's and 40's, exactly as I remember it while living with my loving Grandparents as a little girl.
Fascinating alone for the description of the use of the "Heil Hitler" greeting.
I hope you realized this greeting was enforced by the regime.
"Outstretched right arm", even if you were only passing a neighbor or entering a tiny corner grocery shop!

It was a fascinating story though I didn't read the book, however I did see the movie. I've read other stories over the years, just horrific times and experiences for many who lived through that period.

The book mentions the uniforms--these were not easily acquired!
Looking at the tiny photos from yesteryear, I notice my wearing the jacket everywhere!!
Can't believe how we--young children- were so easily brainwashed into believing this uniform was the utmost status symbol!

Thank you for your reply!
Have made it to age 89, but the memory of those 10 years spent in Germany still haunt me.
