The Buddy Holly "story"..

Went to see "Buddy" at the theatre this afternoon. I think the average age of the audience must have been about 70 and many of them had spent too long in the bar! It was billed as "The Buddy Holly story", but it was more "A collection of songs by Buddy Holly and contemporary artists" with little insight into the man himself. Although the songs and performance were top class, the show did not live up to its title and I came away feeling a bit short changed.

Was it the movie from the 70s or a new film?

Went to see "Buddy" at the theatre this afternoon, not the cinema. It was the stage show which is currently touring the UK.
I remember watching a 'biopic' from many years back on TV. It was much more informative and entertaining even if it lacked the live music.

That would make me angry.

But I would have thought it was a remake, so I wouldn't have paid money to see it anyway. The 1978 movie was really good, I thought. I liked it. Gary Busy played Buddy Holly, and Holly's widow was the screen writer's consultant.

Bear in mind that this was a live stage show and nothing to do with earlier films.

Compared with other live shows such as "Beautiful", the Carol King story, "Jersey Boys" (The four seasons) or "Sunny afternoon" (the Kinks ) which told their story from the beginning, "Buddy" completely ignored his early life. The music and performances were great, but the story telling was almost non-existent.

Thanks for clarifying. Sometimes I call going to the movies "going to the theater" which I see can be confusing. Sorry about that.

No problem Amelia.. we're two countries separated by a common language. We generally reserve 'theatre' for live entertainment - plays, music etc. and 'cinema' for films. As a child, we always talked about 'going to the pictures' or 'the flicks'.

I've strayed into Wisconsin a few times while working in Rochester Mn. Happy days.
