The Butterbox Babies

Terribly bored and looking for an interesting movie to watch I came across a description of a movie which mentioned the Butterbox Babies. 400-800 babies killed by the owners of a maternity home In Nova Scotia, Canada in the 1930-1940’s.

I googled and found reports about what happened. On one of the sites I found the movie made about the crime and watched it. It was a good movie, but a tragic story. These people ran a maturity home, sold healthy white babies, and let between 400 and 800 babies of lesser quality die. They were buried in butterboxes, grocery delivery boxes, on the grounds of the home.

Most of the babies, once they started selling them, were sold to Americans in NJ.

Anyway, if you are interested, the movie is worth watching.

I hope a special place awaits the Young's.

I wouldn't be able to stomach watching the movie.
I think it’s important though to know of such things, that such things can happen so it can be prevented in the future. The movie did not focus on the deceased babies, but explained how this couple came to a certain amount of power and the social worker who worked tirelessly to bring them down.

When we ask, ourselves, how could this happen-The movie does a great job of explaining how it happened. How officials ignored the warnings and let them stay in business. How this one person ended the horror. I didn’t “get” the ending, but won’t mention it as someone might want to see the movie.

Thanks, Aneeda, for helping me understand more of the story-line.

Bless the social worker.

Good heavens. :( I just googled a little on this topic. Some of the surviving children are still trying to find their bio families. So tragic for all involved, including the young women the Youngs preyed on. Imagine lying about being an obstetrician!

I stopped watching gore real and phony because the remaining years of my life will be as I dictate and I have seen enough crap for one lifetime.

I have no ideal what you mean. In the movie there was little “gore“, there was, as I remember, a still born birth portrayed, which is not “gore” but a reality of life. You were not required to watch or read anything.
