The Charges On An Electric Bill Other Than Actual Use

Did you ever take note to all of the other charges on an electric bill besides actual usage ie kwh. Charges for transmission, distribution, delivery and monthly service fee far exceed actual usage. Last month they were over 4 times actual use.

We're lucky...we're in a rural Electric Co-Op, and the only added charge is $25/mo. for an "Availability Fee". Our rates are only $.09/KWH, and every year we usually get a small "rebate" if the co-op shows an excess of profits. It's kind of nice not having a greedy corporation supplying our utilities.

My most recent bill for my little apartment was $54.46 and the actual charge for the gas and electricity used was $5.69.

I tried to explain this to a young man that came to the door recently trying to get me to sign up for a different electricity provider in an effort to save me money. It's really not worth switching or trying to limit consumption because the actual cost of the energy used is so small.

It's still a great and amazing value in this area to be able to push a button or flip a switch and get light, cooking fuel, etc... for such a small cost and effort. I'll stay on the grid thank you!

I got a GREAT new customer rate for my electricity last year, every month was $32, hot summer & all, and keeping the A/C around 70. Well I was too lazy to check out rates when my year was up, so I stayed with them and now I get to pay the consequences with bills over $100 for the hot summer months.
I've learned.
