It takes 4 weeks to heal after gallbladder surgery and 6 weeks to regain strength to participate in strenuous activity such as scuba diving training. I left a message with my scuba instructor to reserve September 17 to complete my training. He called a moment ago stating 09/17/2020 is not convenient to his schedule and asked if we could meet the next Thursday to finish training? I agreed, but requested I use my own equipment during the training.
By the time 09/24/ roles around Cayuga lake will be cooler than it is now, I reminded my instructor I own a 5.5 MM wetsuit and cold water will not be an issue. The reason I pressed my instructor to use my own equipment was I may not get another opportunity to use my own equipment should I fail training and not get certification.
My instructor warned me not to purchase diving gear until you are certified diver. However, in my eagerness to dive I disregarded his warning and purchased all new diving gear, new Aqualung Arrris BCD, a Zeagle 1st and 2nd stage cold water regulator, a Zeagle Octopus as my alternate air source, and the latest Oceanic air-integrated dive computer with compass.
Perhaps I am foolish to spend money on a sport I am not yet certified to participate in or maybe a bit over-zealous in my spending to accomplish something beyond my physical means, either way I enjoyed researching diving and choosing my equipment all for the common goal of experience and certification.
