All kinds of foods:
- Triple creme Brie (DH) and Saint Angel or Brillat-Savarin (me).
- Pate, especially goose liver or duck liver mousse.
- High quality jams/spreads. That was how we discovered the We Love Jam small producer brand which makes an amazing Blenheim Apricot jam - produced in the heart of Silicon Valley CA, of all places!
- Artisanal sausages, such as hard to find French blanc noir, North African merguez, imported Spanish chorizo, and Laotian sai oua.
- When I want really top quality beef, or good veal chops
- Specific brands of spices/seasonings. There's two brands of Spanish pimenton my niece and I favor (we usually split a container), or something a little harder to find, like Himalayan pink sea salt.
- Unusual produce, such as Tokyo turnips or watermelon radishes.
- Gourmet loose teas. We buy a specific Lapsang Souchong from a Tibetan tea and herbal shop in our area called Llasa Karnak, and like to blend it 2:1 with a wonderful Russian Caravan tea sold by an Eastern European deli. We like super-smoky, super-strong black tea and tried many brands of LS before settling on this one as our "daily" tea blend. We'll often try different black teas at tea shops, for fun. On rare occasions I'll brew up a little white tea for myself - unfortunately aged white peony teas have become very expensive.
