The great kitchen remodel begins!!

I feel for you , we had a complete remodel about 18 months ago..took 3 weeks... had to cook everything in the microwave in the livingroom.. and a tea-tray set up with a kettle in the livingroom too and a dozen cups ... .

I had to do the washing up in the bath and shower... and the dust and concrete everywhere..( do you have concrete walls) ?

Fortunately as it's Ron doing yours, it might not be so noisy , I had 4 guys here, and made tea for them all day every day , not to mention the sausage sandwiches they came to expect every morning just after they arrived... but they did a great job for me..

We have done that a couple of years ago....The only backdraft was the middle of the kitchen has drawers and a stove in the middle of the
kitchen...It took the people to get the Coriander to arrive from Italy, two month's....That was a big mistake, but finally it did go well...

Have fun with your new Kitchen...

Fun time. Yeah right. :( We took apart our kitchen about 6 years back with the help of a couple of friends and had a pro do some new wiring. I found out how bad I am at drywall taping and mudding. It turned out fine in the end, just took me a lot of trys that a pro could have done in two stages.

Very nice. I love your choice of hardware. My son renovated my kitchen a few years ago. I have such trouble deciding on the little things. I have trouble visualizing which means my son or hubby had to hold items up before installing until there arms ached.
My son said if all his customers were like me he would quite the business. lol

@Ruth n Jersey Ron feels a bit that way about me :ROFLMAO: I am also very visual and it's so hard for me to just decide on something without being able to see some semblance of it in place before the final decision.

Also, I guess I didn't make something clear. The tall cabinet with the microwave in it is what we just installed. It doesn't have any hardware on it yet. The rest of the cabinets that you see with the dark hardware is what we're going to be replacing bit by bit. Ron is currently building the upper and lower cabinets on the sink/window wall. They'll be replaced hopefully in the next month..well, the upper ones will, we're still trying to decide what kind of countertop and sink we want which decision we have to make first before he builds the lower cabinets.

And then there's another set of upper and lower cabinets on the refrigerator wall, at right angles to the sink/window wall. You see a tiny bit of that section in the very first and second picture on this thread. Part of that install will be to replace the fridge and create a sort of a box to put it in so it's completely enclosed. The final set of cabinets will be across the kitchen where the table is, and it will be a floor to ceiling pantry area where currently there's a cupboard on the wall with two shelves.

Ronni, I hope you know that this will lead to things like re-doing the floor. ;) When we got our house in Florida, the wife hated that little closed in galley kitchen, so I had to rebuild the entire kitchen. Of course, once I had it done, I was informed that the floor needed changing too. 🤪 Glad to say it all worked out, but, I had some doubts for a while. And then came... (maybe we should tile the rest of the house) and on it went.

Ronni, I love white cabinets, so clean looking, the last four homes I always went with white cabinets. Are you keeping your appliances, they look in good shape and I do like the built in microwave.

Also like that little scalloped thing where the clock is....will you be able to incorporate that into the new design?

Wow it’s just gorgeous!!

We’re definitely replacing the kitchen floor so that’s not gonna be a surprise request when he thinks he’s done!! We also at some point are going to knock down the wall that separates the kitchen and living room. And won’t THAT BE A MESS!! 😖

The house is a 50’s ranch style home and the design of those was such that there were no open spaces....everything had its own little box of a room. When ron moved into the house the very first thing he did was to knock down the wall between the kitchen and dining room. Both were tiny, claustrophobic spaces, but with the adjoining wall knocked out it created a sense of openness and eliminated the cramped feeling each small room.

Once we get the living room wall removed it will be very open and airy, and the large living room windows will help get more natural light into the kitchen area.

Thanks @Lee. until Ron built that cabinet, the microwave just sat on the counter which really took up a lot of space. I love that built-in microwave now!!

That scalloped valance has already come down, because we are working on the next set of cabinets which is above the counter to the right of the sink. The design of the window wall and the cabinets surrounding it will be quite different than what you see right now.
The framing of the window will be very altered a lot, plus there will be a herringbone backsplash in the area between the upper cabinets and the counter, and it will change the entire face of that wall once all of the cabinets are in place.

Hey Ronni. I can certainly appreciate the work that needs doing when you start a kitchen renovation.

The choice that you are going for is similar to ours but we chose grey instead of classic white. The only difference is that we completely gutted ours and have been without water, sinks, dishwasher and bottom cabinets since Christmas.

We have our floor porcelain tiles down and I’m currently painting the kitchen. The walls needed fixing up from ripping out some of our old builders grade cabinets which are well over 20 years but now we are starting from scratch.

Good luck and have fun. I’ve also picked the pullout drawers with the garbage organizing bins. In fact, I think I like the organizing component to our new kitchen cabinets more than the look and they look quite nice, like yours.

How exciting! I can't wait to see more, @Keesha.

That's what we wanted but I was afraid the wall was a load bearing one, so rather than chance it, I compromised and cut an opening in it so you didn't get the feeling you were closed in. 🙂 Came out ok and the wife was able to converse with people in the dining room.

Like the color of the cabinets but the color of the hardware is a little too dark for me. But that's just me. Its quite a project! You will have lots of room for everything. I miss a large roomy kitchen.
