The hood on your winter coat

This may come as a surprise, but there's a good chance you are wearing the hood on your winter coat wrong. A hat trick one woman posted on social media has gone viral. Jessica Alzamora is from Chicago and posted a video on how she wears her coat. Within 24 hours of posting the video, it had more than 5 million views. Inside Edition went to the crossroads of the world, Times Square, to show how to use your hood to stay warm.

This reminds me of the military surplus snorkel parkas that were popular in the 60s and 70s.


When the fur is rolled in or is it out, the fine hairs provide a bit of extra insulation without obstructing the view.

No fur on mine. It has elastic around the outer edge and it does block vision. I fold it back on the outside; that helps. I also wear a scarf underneath that wraps around my head and neck.

Here in Florida, the hood usually hangs down the back of the jacket and comes in handy for hanging the coat on a hook.....lol.

Not a coat style one sees in my region but that looks logical.

Per below, have an expensive ski parka with a detachable hood. Use layering with lots of base and mid layer selections for all clothing winter dressing. For skiing head use, have two layering weights of balaclavas under a helmet plus various ski goggles. When cold below 20F, having even the tiniest skin areas open to the cold air is increasingly unpleasant, especially when moving at speed due to wind chill.
