The professor may have picked the moon & Mars simply because we've landed on the moon & have a mechanical device sampling the surface of Mars.The ability to get to both is real. The ability to colonize is a whole different story.

A previous post of mine that shows what he is talking about was ignored in favor of a discussion about big brother watching. Prior to that post I said I was to old to be concerned about being a Soylant Green product. There will be survivors on earth, the quantity and quality of how they treat each other is up for speculation.

1984 novel was brought up predicting the future. Big Brother was the government in the novel. It's all relevant to the topic.

I don't see what 1984 has to do with the necessity of finding other habitation outside of Earth because we've polluted the planet, which is what Hawking was referring to. 1984 was about a totalitarian government torturing its people, not about pollution or over population. Oh, well. It's the internet. It happens.

Yeah. But in 1984 it was the government spying on you. In 2017 it's everyone spying on you. But just look at the communication between individuals such as what we are doing now. And look at all the kids communicating with each other on Facebook and Twitter.

In the 1984 novel even the thought police was after you and government controlled everything even globally.

As far as threads taking a different direction, in real life when people are having face to face conversations that can happen too. You say something that makes me thing of something else and suddenly our discussion about the price of eggs has morphed into a chat about road rage.

Yep. The thread morphs just as humans do.

I'm just not a fan of doom and gloom as Hawkings predicts. Don't listen. It's not going to affect your lifestyle one iota.

For all it's worth. I think he's crazy and trying to attract attention.

You have one thing in the U.S. that is your saviour. The Constitution. It's a beautiful document. I am a fan of the Constitution and try to learn about it as much as I can. I live in Canada but I have family living in the U.S. so everything affects them as well as me.
