I was wondering what the Dark Web is all about. Erin gives many useful web sites <https://www.seniorforums.com/threads/the-dark-web.78367/> but I found an article that gave me a great overview. "The Dark Web Explained: How It Works & Why It's So Dangerous," <https://www.aura.com/learn/dark-web> Mind you, this article is from a commercial company that wants our business. Nevertheless, I was impressed, and for me it was an eye-opener to read it. The article is far too long to reproduce, so I just gave the reference.

Have you never been on the Dark Web? It's like the real thing, only much much slower.

Okay, it's not exactly the same. You can buy dope, look at illegal activities, buy credit card info. You can spend time with people who are paranoid for good reason. It's a barrel of laughs.

I have no wish to ever go on the dark web... in all honesty I'm afraid my computer will be hacked.... :eek:

So you think a gathering place for pornography, indecent images of children, sites selling drugs and weapons…a place for hackers and other cybercriminals is a “barrel of laughs?”

It's like being a kid and doing something naughty. You know you shouldn't, but who knows what mysteries are held there?!?!?

Answer: None. Perhaps if you were 20 and had no sense. Maybe if you had no concern for those pesky CONSEQUENCES.

The dark web is like the normal web, it's just that no-one gives a damn there. About anything. There's no reason for a normal person to go there. I did because......... well, no excuses, coz it was cool.

See, there's a LOT on the dark web. The things you list are the headline grabbers, but they don't tell the whole story. All of those things you can get on this side of the internet if you know what you're looking for. Evil is everywhere, all the time. That's a rot in the mind. Do I regret going there? No, of course not. My "it's a barrel of laughs" was sarcasm - something often missed on this internet thing.

A place to hire a hit man to kill off someone you don’t like
A place for people selling children as sex slaves
A place to watch snuff videos. Videos of people getting tortured to death
A place to buy any type of horrific drug on the market
A place to be involved in the most disgusting things imaginable

I’ve never been to the dark web, nor do I have any desire to go to the dark web nor do I want to know any people involved in the dark web.
The regular web is plenty sick enough thanks.
 
Let's not fool ourselves. Whatever is on the dark web is on the peoples web. It's just the level of subterfuge. Evil people are evil, whether we acknowledge them or not. On the other hand, normal everyday folk are concerned about encryption and the like, and the dark web offers that.
