The Last Thing You Talked Yourself OUT Of Purchasing ??

I was looking over the legion of pocket knives I have today and thought of one I'd seen at Ace Hardware some time back. I really would like to have a large Case Stockman pocket knife in Amber Peach Seed Jig Bone. But I need another pocket knife like I need another hole in my head. I even have a bunch of Stockman knives ... just not a large Case Stockman.

The desire was so strong I thought I was going to have to strip naked and burn all my clothes just so I couldn't jump in the Jeep and head over to Ace Hardware !!! Luckily, I got distracted with a late lunch and time to feed Mason, the boy dog. So far so good, but that Case Stockman remains only a couple of miles away. Shoot.

So what was the last thing you talked yourself out of purchasing ??

@Naturally, I understand about wanting an item for a collection.
Thought about bidding on a couple of vintage watches.

The internet makes it too easy to sit and click a mouse as the bids start to flow.
This was the first time I just watched and didn't bid.

I enjoy testing my skill as an amateur watch repair guy.

There will be more watches coming on the block, due to the rise of smart phones and people looking in the 'junk drawer'.

@Feelslikefar ... I've been through the watch phase myself.
And I too have all the accoutrements for amateur watch repair ... even destroyed a few nice watches over the years :ROFLMAO:
Not funny. I have to laugh to keep from crying when I think about it HA.
Even have an Omega branded Victorinox pocket knife to pop the back on my 1944 Omega pocket watch.
Had my Omega Seamaster Omegamatic to parade rest to replace the auto-quartz capacitor.
Do all my own watch timing with a precision clock and watch timer microset.

All this stuff (and more) was in storage and tossed onto the table just now for a quick pic.

EDIT: I picked up a Citizen Eco Drive (lower left corner) slapped a Hirsch natural rubber strap on it and stored everything else.
But I do LOVE dragging stuff out from "time" to "time" and fiddling ... or just wearing a random one now and then.

Last year I talked myself out of purchasing a new ride-it style mower. We have one we bought used for $400, about 15 years ago. Since then, I've done a lot of maintenance & tuning of the engine, replaced the seat, dealt with slow-leaking tires, etc. A new one would cost about $3500.

But now, I think next spring we may have to shell out for it.🫤

Bought a used Snapper riding mower for $400 and used it for 10-12yrs. Loved the mower and got to where I could "walk around it" top to bottom doing the required maintenance and repairs to it. About 3yrs ago, when the Snapper was 25+yrs old, I broke down and purchased a Cub Cadet. Honestly I don't think the Cub Cadet will outlast the old Snapper. Just not as heavy duty well made. But it sure does get MUCH better gas mileage and maintenance is MUCH easier.

It was a coat which, although beautiful and heavily reduced in a sale, I knew I didn't need and would seldom wear. I am getting very sensible in my old age :)

I hope you won't mind if I go off topic but I can't find your thread where you posted some photos of your knife collection. I think you have some similar to one I have and which I would like to ask if you know more about. It was old when I rescued it. I think it is a stiletto knife. It is marked Inox which I believe is what we now would call stainless steel. It has a button to flick the blade and another to lock it. It probably came from Italy? I am interested because I love finding out about the history of things so, would be interested in your thoughts (y)

@Trish ... I don't own a switchblade knife. I do believe the one you have is Italian and possibly old (obviously abused / well used) but beyond that, I sadly have no idea.

... but I know some folks who could help you out a bit with info, although with only the 'INOX' stamp, it's a pretty generic piece, it would be interesting to see what they might have to say about it. Someone with knowledge may be able to read visual ques, styles, pattern, construction and at least give an approximate date range when made.

All About Pocket Knives (AAPK) is a very vast forum and there is even a sub-forum for Switchblade Knives specifically. There are threads (among others) about vintage Italian knives in particular. If you are really interested in finding out ALL that can be known about your knife, it would be worth joining AAPK forum and posting your questions. I'm sure there are a few who would gladly share their experience and opinion :)

I was seriously considering a night away in a hotel. If I could have found two nights at the same price, I would have done it. Too much money for two nights and too much trouble for just one night. I’m feeling restless.

1966 Honda Super Hawk motorcycle. I've been looking for one to restore and one turned up close to me. I stepped away from it because the guy wouldn't negotiate and he wanted too much.

Then just today I saw he dropped the price $600, still priced high but I may take another swing at it.lol

Good News! You can still strip naked & order that knife from Amazon.

As for talking myself out of something I don't have to since I don't buy stuff. My wife does the buying. Since we were conservative during our earlier years that made it possible to not be so conservative now. Now it gives me pleasure that she can buy what she wants when she wants it.

I got bit by the Ancient Egyptian bug-they fascinate me. I saw a 2' x 3' artist made image of King Tut's golden mask in an arts & craft store at the mall. It was $200. It was beautiful, and I know just where to put it. But $200??? Well, it's still in the store. And that's the problem, it's still there........
