I rarely if ever wink. I sometimes wink at my husband after I’ve complained or nagged about something; just to let him know that I’m not too serious. Winking at others seems a bit too flirtatious. Too risky for me.

I think you're right... I haven't seen anyone in any circumstances winking for many years now. I'm thinking it wouldn't be received in the relatively innocent way it would have been years ago. Kind of like what @dilettante said... probably too dangerous now, especially with a stranger.

A subtle wink has been making people swoon since long before Elvis perfected the gesture, but ya know winks aren’t always a sign of flirtation. In fact, the meaning of a wink can be completely different depending on culture and context~

a left eye if they are right handed, and wink with a right eye
if they are left handed? How accurate it is, can't say.

I know for myself, I am a left eye winker..

When I was just a teenager, I would have to take my high heeled shoes to the shoe repairer near my work, he always used to lean into me and say with a wink :" You have lovely lips". I would immediately go scarlet and couldn't get out of his shop quickly enough, saying I'd pick them up the following day. Oh, how I hated to go to his shop and have to face him again. The other girls said he used to say the same to them...What a horrible little man.
