The Long Stem Mushroom Conspiracy

Anyone else noticed that they are now picking the mushrooms with a stem way long longer than it used to be.

Being on the frugal side I would notice a thing like this. Most of the stems I have recently purchased had stems 2 or 3 times longer than before. Hmmmm some even 2 inches long. Ratio to mushroom cap, not a mathematician but it's a lot of difference.

It's a conspiracy, more stem, more weight. Not to mention the fact of more money. The growers are laughing all the way to the bank. :D:ROFLMAO::D

Whatcha think....should we snap a stems off before going to the cash. Maybe that's being a thief. I dunno

I just cut off the very bottom of the stems and eat them along with the mushrooms. But TBH they haven't registered with me as being longer than before.

I don't know about store mushrooms, but we've got a good supply of Morel mushrooms growing on some old dead/downed trees in our forest, so we'll probably pick some in coming days.

Since you are buying them loose not packaged buying the largest makes it possible to scoop out the caps to stuff them. Use the scooped out & stems to make a delicious cream of mushroom soup. No waste & no bad feelings about removing the stems.
