A new report is recommending that the
New Forest gets a new railway line from Brockenhurst to
Ringwood and that the government considers reopening the former railway line. The case for re-opening came from the Campaign for Better Transport. It says that re-opening the railway closed by the drastic Beeching Axe closure programme in the 1960's, should be a priority, to help combat traffic congestion and climate change.
The entire length of the closed railway became a trailway for walkers, horse riders and cyclists, it's a very popular feature of the forest.

The white building, just visible under the bridge, on the left, is the former Holmsley Station, seen here in it's working life.

Following closure the station was bought, tidied up and reopened as Holmsley Tea Rooms, and very popular it is too.
