The mustard rape fields in my neighbourhood

The mustard rape fields are starting to die back.. yesterday on the way home from the tip.. I took these photos which I thought were.. really striking given the thunderous look of the sky...

There's a lot of oilseed rape planted here too. Some people complain about the smell, but it doesn't trouble me.

No noticeable smell here at all..in fact I had no idea they're supposed to smell , and they are growing in many fields near my house , and have been for decades

Aesthetic yes, wanted in many regions not. Those alien invasive European plants much like Eurasian grasses settlers brought with them to feed livestock, have dominantly displaced native New World vegetation over much of lower elevation California and The West. Here in Northern California, that late winter species tends to densely dominate fertile soils of agricultural fields and orchards while it releases harsh chemicals that inhibit growth of competing species.

Yes, the small orange flowers center bottom. We have poppies here too, they grow wild in the mountains and we have gathered seeds and planted in our garden.
