The current trending crime is now egg smuggling with record seizures at the US-Mexico border. Blamed on rising/high egg prices. Falls under agriculture regulation and can lead to a 10,000$ fine.

Well, when prices go up on something, there will always be people who hatch a scheme to profit from it.
Luckily, police will be there to lay down the law & crack the case.

Hopefully they can beat down the price soon because eggs are now a treat a couple times a week yet sometimes I was good for 4-5 a day. 18 months ago could still get them under a dollar a dozen. I thought creeping above $2 was bad but over 5 now.

Funny thing is as egg prices are climbing chicken itself is declining sometimes as low .69 cents a pound. Same for hamburger. So I've increased meat consumption and throw in a second meal with a vegetables.

Oh your carbon footprint! Compared to eggs though, poultry is the better buy so far. I hope they don't get wind of this or we'll be taking trips to Mexico to score a chicken breast.

Cheapest store in the area is 4.76 a dozen last I checked. Get extra large, jumbo or 18-30 pack $5-$8. Some stores want $13 for 30-36 pack of small eggs.

My son buys the most expensive eggs...organic free range brown eggs. Luckily he gets a fairly decent price at Costco but I'd hate to see him have to pay more than he already does. I'm not as picky about my eggs. Last time I bought eggs from Costco, regular eggs (may have been cage free though), I paid for 5 dozen what I'd normally pay for 2 dozen at the supermarket. So I gave my honorary daughter a dozen. Costco doesn't routinely raise prices on many of their items. It will be interesting to see how much the price of eggs and egg whites has gone up there, if at all. My son is supposed to do the Costco shopping today.
