The new PWHL with 6 teams, 3 in Canada, and 3 in the USA, has been drawing record crowds since the start of 2024. Last Saturday, Toronto versus Montreal drew 19,340 to the ScotiaBank Centre, which is the home of the NHL"s Toronto Maple Leafs. That was a 100 percent ticket sell out . The PWHL teams are, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Boston, New York, and Minnesota. The PWHL has been able to secure 2 national sponsors in Canada, Canadian Tire the largest hardware and tire retailer in Canada, and Air Canada, the national airline in Canada. Secondary US sponsors are Coca Cola, TD bank, and Ford Motors.

The players are mostly from US colleges, the US Women's World Hockey team, along with Canadian women players who have won Gold at the Winter Olympics on Team Canada, and at the IIHF International Women's cup. The PWHL rules are similar to that of the NHL, with full body contact and 3 twenty minute periods. It's fast, and tough, and the players are skilled .

The crowds at the PWHL games are filled with women and girls who can now see professional women players, to emulate. The League has made sure that teen girl's hockey teams can get reduced ticket prices at every game, across the league's schedule. That will help to grow the fan base, for sure. The Toronto versus Montreal game had dozens of girl's teams in the stands, wearing their team jersey's. The on ice officials are women, as are the coaches and the broadcast crews. The between period interviews of the Toronto Montreal game featured 4 Olympic Gold medal winners, 2 from Canada, and 2 from the USA.

Have you watched the PWHL ? JImb.
