The next rover the "Perseverance" how it works.
It travels at less than 0.1 mph.
It has six motors and six wheel drive, four wheel steering and the ability to climb over a 15.7 inch rock.
It is powered by a 10.6 lb. chunk of plutonium 238. The plutonium gives off heat as it decays and that heat is converted to 110 watts of electrical power by a 99 pound thermoelectric generator on the rovers aft end.
A pair of of lithium-ion batteries store additional energy allowing the rover to draw up to 900 watts (1.2 horsepower) for short stretches.
It carries a helicopter which will fly around exploring areas the rover cannot.
It carries a laser that will vaporize the rock samples and the resulting noises scientists can understand the mass and composition of the specimen in question.
The mission will go for 687 days, one Martian year.
