Do you recall Aunt Polly insisting Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn attend church services and the boys ditching church to go fishing or pirate adventures? There was a time when families were uneducated and god fearing so gods representatives swooped down on communities to prepare sinners for the judgement day. The problem with giving the godly keys to the city is that recognition and special treatment swells a man's head into thinking himself invincible and a part from social restrictions.
in my home growing up the church seemed to be the god we were supposed to worship. The only time my dad eluded his conversation toward god or Jesus was when he preached or taught bible classes and my mother's theological solution for everything was to attend church. I attended church services until one Sunday I refused to go. imagine the stir I caused.
Only in the last 3 or 4 months I questioned the validity of belief based on faith and I could not find any hard tangible evidence proving Jesus is the gateway to god, that Jesus saves and grants salvation to believing sinners, the Virgin Birth, Easter resurrection coincidentally in the Spring, The Lord's Supper or communion simply reinforces what you are to believe. Jesus is god's chosen son, there are many mansions in the kingdom of heaven, it is unlikely you or I know if there is a state of being after life, so it is best not to project based on lack of knowledge.
I find solace by believing in an energy whose purpose and responsibility is to maintain equilibrium on earth and universe. I believe if an event on earth it is acknowledge throughout the universe because the central energy force is the common bond that connects us all. I can't prove this but it is far more acceptable to me than the bible or church.
