The situation of being at a restaurant and having to consider picking up the full tab..

Being an introvert has its advantages, I just don't go out with groups of people.

When out with family my father or brother would pay. If it was just my mom and me, she paid. As the baby of the family I kind of felt I was lowest status and that higher status people paid. Maybe I'm just thoughtless and cheap.

Whenever I meet friends for lunch/dinner I request separate bills to the "wait person" before we start ordering. I dislike calculating who had what on the bill.

I'll admit, it's not a contest between us. If she says "I'm paying" I let her. The most recent one was a chuckle. She didn't bring DH or order t-bone.

Server got a 63% tip. Next time. I'm getting 5's

I would imagine you are joking somewhat here, right? I am on your side in either case.

I am in a similar situation. Have been dating a nice woman for 3 months. I decided right off the bat I would pay for every date, with my ulterior motive being to make her like going out with me. And as 'proof' that I valued her companionship. And as a matter of respect. My respect for her, and her respect for me in letting me pay her way. If that makes sense. In a retro way.

She likes to go to inexpensive places, like Chinese restaurants, fortunately! And she has a 'movie pass' card that gets her into movies for free, and once it got me in free too.

Now that I think of it, she eats over at my place a lot and man, she has a big appetite, lol.

I'm not complaining. She is terrific and I am lucky to have her around !

Thanks for the comment. I read some place that you have to be careful with this type of lady. You always take her to a restaurant and she always orders the most expensive item on the menu (maybe, lobster). If she orders something on the least expensive that is a good sign.

In a fairness, she did get and pay for tickets to see a place with a lot of Christmas lights. I think maybe that she is still "sizing me up." She was married many years ago to a real loser drunk so she might be rather nervous about men. Not know, of course, that I'm just a nice, good guy.

Servers never seem to presume that the man will pay now. They‘ll set the bill down at the end of the table and ask who would like it; they’ll even do that for just the two of us.

Often the server will ask a large group if we’d like separate checks.
